Former Liverpool midfielder Ryan Kent is on the verge of a move to the Iranian Pro League
Former Liverpool midfielder Ryan Kent is set to join Iranian side Persepolis FC on a free after being swayed by the country's relaxed laws on keeping crocodiles as pets.
The 28-year-old has been a free agent since October after his contract with Fenerbahce was terminated - but is now on the verge of a move to the Iranian Pro League.
In doing so, Kent will be reunited with his former coach in Turkey, Ismail Kartal.
However, reports suggest it is not just the potential reunion which attracted the Englishman.
According to As Marca, the former Liverpool man was convinced by Persepolis after learning “that it is legal to keep crocodiles at home in Iran”.
As bizarre as it sounds, the revelation does fit Kent's profile.
A product of the Liverpool academy, Kent spent 15 years on Merseyside, making one appearance for the Reds before departing for Rangers in 2019.
A fan favourite during his time at Ibrox, the winger played a pivotal role in their run to the Europa League Final in 2022 - but it was his flair for the exotic off the pitch that raised many eyebrows.
James Tavernier, Kent's team-mate at Rangers, revealed he once bought a pet snake as a secret santa gift.
Meanwhile, Kent also advertised for a crocodile sitter during his time in Turkey - so the news is actually more believable than it first appeared.
If only contract negotiations were so easy. Perhaps Richard Hughes and co should take note when trying to tie down our star trio - just throw in a crocodile or two, see what happens
